Shab-e-Meraj Published by

Shab-e-Meraj marks the holy night in which the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) was led on a journey to meet with the Almighty. The meaning of Shab-e- Meraj is Night of Ascent. It marks the transportation of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him)  to heaven as he reached the highest stage of nearness to God. On his way, he was graced with the blessings of meeting Hazrat Adam, Abraham, Moses and many other Prophets ( Peace be upon them all)

The significance of this night testifies that no other individual could attain a higher status than the experience of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him).  He was accompanied by the angel Gabriel who could only reach a point and beseeched Prophet (Peace be upon him), ‘I am forced to stop here. I cannot go any further, but you O Messenger of peace and friend of the Master of the worlds, continue your glorious ascent.’

On reaching a point closest to the Throne, he drank from the Divine fountain of spiritual knowledge and came down to impart this knowledge to the world and mankind.

People all over the world celebrate this night by praying, gathering in mosques, talking about Prophet Muhammed’s (Peace be upon him) pure heart and the experience of witnessing Allah’s grace. The interpretations narrated in the Quran are meant to emphasize on the health of the heart and the journey of the soul as people seek to rise above the material things of the world and yearn for the presence of Allah.
